Emergency Cover Out Of Hours - April 2006

As of April 1st 2006 emergency cover for domestic pets (small animals) outside of our normal surgery hours will be provided by Bristol Emergency Veterinary Service.

This service can be contacted via the number given by our answerphone outside of normal surgery hours.

Ring 0117 956 9038 and follow the instructions for a small animal emergency. You will be given a number to call which will be answered by a vet or nurse on duty through the night whi can advise you or arrange for your pet to be seen at the dedicated Emergency clinic in Bradley Stoke.
John Sterry retires after 38 years with the practice - April 2006

John first joined the practice in 1968 after working in Dorset. He quickly impressed the existing partners as both a small animal and farm vet and became a partner in 1973. In 1976 the practice became involved in meat hygiene and John threw himself into this discipline with all his customary enthusiasm. John is now going on to yet another new challenge and joining the Food Standards Agency utilising his extensive meat hygiene knowledge.

Although John has not done routine farm calls or small animal work for some years we in the practice will miss his clinical expertise, enthusiasm, wisdom and most of all day to day friendship. I am sure you will all join us in wishing him all the best in his new career.

Pet Smile Art Competition Winners

10th June 2003

Here are pictures of the first prize winners of our Pet Smile Art Competition.
The winner of the 8 to 11 year olds was Ryan Johnson who did a lovely picture of a smiling rabbit. The winner of the 4 to 7 year olds was Megan Long whose smiling cat was very colourful and artistic.
All our members of staff judged the competition and it was very difficult. Prize certificates and goody bags were presented to the children on Saturday 14th June, when all of the entrants were invited to the surgery for the presentation.
We also had a guest dalmatian called Dotty (Helen) who presented the prizes.

Pet Smile Month

1st May 2003

Pet Smile Month will once again be held at the practice following its success in 2002. We will be providing complimentary dental check-ups for cats and dogs. These check-ups will be carried out free of charge by the veterinary staff to promote awareness of the importance of veterinary dentistry and your pets dental care.
At each check-up a survey will be performed of the individual's oral health. Then advice will be given to the client on prevention or further treatment if necessary. Each cat or dog will receive a goody bag, which contains information leaflets and a chance to win œ500.
This year the Avenue Veterinary Centre is also running its own art competition for children. Each entrant has to paint, crayon or draw a picture of their pet or any other animal with beautiful teeth and a wide smile. There is a goody bag for everyone who enters and a certificate. There are two age groups 4-7yrs and 8-11yrs. There will be first prizes for both groups. Entries should be on A4 paper and handed in with the entry form by Saturday 7th June. Entry forms can be collected from reception.
